Alauda Bat Live terms of use
Last updated 11 September 2026
Who provides the app
Alauda Bat Live is published by Apalos Ltd (trading as alauda), a company registered in England and Wales with company number 13644974, registered office 86-90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE, United Kingdom. You can reach us at hello@alaudaaudio.co.uk. These terms cover the app; buying the bat dongle is covered by the terms of sale.
What the app is
The app turns the Alauda USB-C bat dongle into a full-spectrum bat detector: it draws a live sonogram, records WAV files and keeps a list of your field sessions. Without a dongle it runs from a bundled sample recording and a limited preview from the phone microphone. It is a wildlife survey tool, not a safety, medical or calibrated measurement instrument, and the readings it shows depend on the hardware and phone it is running on.
Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, under these terms and the rules of the app store you got it from. You may not copy, modify, reverse engineer or redistribute the app except where the law allows it regardless of this clause.
Your recordings
Everything you record belongs to you. The app stores it on your phone and never uploads it; see the privacy policy. Keeping copies of recordings you care about is your responsibility, as is what you do with them once shared.
Bats and the law
Bats and their roosts are protected in the United Kingdom and in many other countries. Surveying them, and in particular disturbing a roost, may require a licence. The app does not give you one, and complying with wildlife law where you use it is your responsibility.
Free of charge and as is
The app is provided free of charge. We work to keep it accurate and reliable, but we do not promise that it is error-free, that it will run on every device, or that a recording or reading is complete or correct. We may change, suspend or withdraw the app at any time.
Liability
We are responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these terms or our negligence. We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence. We are not liable for loss of recordings or data, or for business losses, arising from use of a free app.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings there.
